Damn, she is so fucking sexy.

My finger traces the elegant tattoo gracing the length of her spine. A sexy, simple black rose as the beginning, but the stem moves into the words “A certain darkness is needed to see the stars” in a cursive font.

I love that fucking quote and have since I saw it for the first time on her silky-smooth skin.

Leslie is in my bed, both of us lying on our stomachs, our heads at the foot, watching the sports report on the local news.

“Fuck, I still can't believe you let that asshole fuck you.”

A laugh bubbles up in Leslie's slender throat as she turns to me, her chin propped on her hand, elbow bent. “Jealous, Cash?”

I laugh, a cocky, arrogant laugh that's slightly reminiscent of John Travolta in Grease. Only that fucker was jealous as hell. Me? Hell no. “Nope, just bewildered. My hand lays flat on her bare, lower back as we lay naked on my bed. “I have no idea what a badass like you would see in dipshit like him.”

She laughs again, shrugging her shoulders. “I was horny, and he was there.” She grabs my t-shirt off the floor and sits up, pulling it on over her head. “I think you were still living in Dallas at the time.”

I stand and tug on a pair of sweats and sit back down on the bed, facing her, smirking. “Ah, so you had to settle.”

She rolls her beautiful eyes and lays flat on her back, looking up at my ceiling. Huh, guess she's sticking around a little longer.

I’m oddly relieved as I lie down next to her, and her head tilts to the side to look at me. “My turn.”

I raise my right eyebrow, uncertain about what will follow, but I’m curious. “Okay.”

“Why did you freak out when Levi said he was retiring? Is it because he's taking over Joel's role? Because he'll be fucking fantastic.”

I puff out a breath, thinking over my answer. Levi knows this business better than most and is a charming motherfucker, so I’m not worried in the slightest about that. “I’m not that great with change.”

Understatement. I fucking despise and fear the hell out of change.

Leslie doesn't miss a beat. “Pussy.”

I laugh. I can't fucking help it. Leslie Adamson is the biggest ballbuster I’ve ever met, and I meant it when I said that she should never change. The world needs more of her type. “Yeah, maybe.”

She closes her eyes and sighs. “Well, he does have a wife and kids. He's hoping to spend more time with them, I guess.” Her eyes open, and she's looking at me seriously now. “You ever want that again?”

“Hell no.” I blurt out my answer, and I think it surprises her for a second. “I had my chance and fucking blew it.”

“I wouldn’t put it that way, Cash. You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just what life handed you.”

I look away and up at the white ceiling. “Yeah, well, it’s not something I ever want to go through again.
